‘Her language is precise, her observations astute, her style punchy, her view of the world dark, but somehow accurate – disturbingly so.  She presents modern America as a collection of self-obsessed individuals who are all, on some level, a whisker away from bludgeoning each other to death ... as a diagnoses of modern-day American ills, this novels is pretty scary.  But it is hard not to admit that Homes has a point’
